Banyan Tree Lighting
The LahainaTown Action Committee will host the 22nd Annual Lighting of the Banyan Tree in downtown Lahaina on Saturday, December 7th, 2019. The event will be split between Campbell Park in the day and Banyan Tree Park for the lighting ceremony. Front Street will also be decorated with 64 Christmas wreaths.
One of the most famous landmarks in Lahaina, the Banyan Tree was planted in 1873 by Sheriff Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Missionary. The tree was brought from India, and was only 8 feet tall at the time of planting. It now has a dozen main trunks, and spreads over the better part of an acre.
"With over 6500 sparkling lights, The Banyan Tree Lighting event officially kicks off the holiday season for our Westside Community," stated Snehal Patel, President of The LahainaTown Action Committee. In keeping with tradition, the Banyan Tree will be lit at 6:30pm and will remain lit the entire holiday season December 7th-to January 1st, 2020.
The Maui Made Holiday Gift Fair will kick off at 9am in Campbell Park and Santa will arrive at the North Pole around 2pm. Children are invited to take a free photo with Santa between 2pm-4pm sponsored by AAAAA Rent A Space Lahaina. Keiki activities will be available at Campbell Park from 12-4pm. Lastly, Lahainaluna High School Band will perform 5:45pm - 6:45pm at Banyan Tree Park. Join in the fun with this Lahaina island-style event with a holiday arts and crafts fair along with a variety of local musicians.
