The Papakea lobby remodel will begin in May 2019
Construction will start either May 6, 2019 or May 13, 2019, depending on when materials are expected to arrive. The duration of the project will be 90 days or earlier.
Construction will be permitted every day, including weekends and holidays from 7:30 am—6:00 pm with quiet work being permitted upon authorization from 6:00 pm—9:00 pm. Loud demo will not occur until after 9:00 am. The contractor expects the loud demo to occur within the first week or two of construction.
The remodel will include a new front desk, interior flooring, painting and new furniture. The bathrooms will also have new flooring, paint and countertops. Some new features will be an expanded floor plan and a new ADA check-in area and a mail box area.
Part of the mirrored wall that you currently see as you enter the front of the lobby will be removed to increase the footprint of the lob-by. The concierge desk will be moved into the new space, moving it away from the entrance of the lobby, which has mislead new guests looking for the front desk. This will also provide more space in the waiting area of the lobby, as well as provide an open view of the front desk as you walk into the lobby (currently hidden be-hind a wall). The new open corner of the front desk provides the new ADA check-in area.
The lending library will have a new look, but will remain in its current location in the bath-room corridor.
During construction, the front desk will be temporarily located in the back office area. More information on the relocation can be found in the Front Desk Relocation section.
We are excited to see this project moving forward. During the renovations, the front desk will be located in the back office area, which is accessible from the back stairs that currently lead up to the Association office.
The staff presently located in the back office area will move to the basement.
The security phone for after-hours check-ins will be moved to the back of the lobby at ground level to accommodate all after-hours check-ins as well as anyone needing front desk assistance and cannot utilize the stairs, as the ADA ramp will be closed during renovations due to the construction access needed for the contractors.
Informational and directional signs will be posted in appropriate places around the lobby.
The boarding pass kiosk and ATM machine will be available in the temporary front desk reception area. There will be no restrooms available in the lobby during the renovation. The same phone services will be available to everyone relocated in the new area.
For a seamless operation, the relocation will occur about a week prior to the start of construction to allow us to work out any issues prior to handing the lobby over to the contractor. In order to complete the remodel as quickly as possible, extended hours are being provided to the contractor. The contractor may not need to utilize the extended hours, but it will be available to them to keep the project moving forward.
