Ancient legends say that Maui was named by Hawai'iloa, who discovered the Hawaiian Islands. He named the island Maui after his son, who was named after the demigod Maui. Traditions and culture are strong throughout Maui, which is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands.

Today, many celebrations and events take place each year to honor the history, arts and culture of Maui's past and evolution. You can attend hula performances, commemorative parades and more for a truly authentic Maui experience.
