Waiheʻe Ridge Trail

Waiheʻe Ridge Trail is a 2.5-mile (one-way) steep trail that offers sprawling valley views of the rainforest and beyond. From the top of this trail, you’ll see the famed Makamakaʻole Falls, the Pacific Ocean, and the Haleakala side of Maui. While this trail isn’t super long, it is known to get slippery especially on the way down. Be sure you wear shoes with good grip and have some experience hiking in this type of terrain.

Length: 4.0 miles

Level: Difficult

The well-maintained trail also offers ample opportunities for bird watching and scouting out local flora. The trail starts flat and easy through a lush forest before heading up to the top.

Prepare to come early to this hike as it’s very popular and can get busy. The trail’s parking lot is across the road from Mendes Ranch and it can get full during peak travel periods. There are no facilities at this trailhead. This hike is located in the West Maui Mountains.
